What Happened?

Well, I did some rethinking of the site.

The argument can be made that the old site lacked usability. Hosting it myself was always the way I thought it should go, but I found what I was doing to be cumbersome and akward for users to access. I wanted to share with others my love of old girlie magazines, not make things difficult.

The old site required a user account. As anyone can tell you, I don’t share user email accounts with anyone. Quite frankly, I don’t care who you are. I required accounts for three reasons:

1. I didn’t want kids accessing the magazines.
2. I was trying to build an online community of lovers of old girlie mags.
3. I didn’t want my (admittedly large) monthly bandwidth sucked dry by non-users linking from other sites.

In the end, the site was somewhat usable, but it wasn’t garnering the access I wanted it to. Also, I was providing the bulk of the magazines. While there’s nothing wrong with that, and I will continue to do so here, I was hoping that others would join in and share what they had. Part of the problem was that uploading was difficult, at best.

The solution, as I see it, is to provide a site where I don’t CARE if you link to the downloads, don’t CARE if you’re a member or not, and don’t CARE about the bandwidth. This took some serious thought, and I think I have the solution here. After finding the wonderful Comicsworld, I have decided that this is the way to go, and I admit to wholeheartedly stealing their ideas. You can download to your heart’s content, it won’t eat up my server’s bandwidth, and it’s a heck of a lot easier to navigate.

I’ll find an easy way to accept contributions later. For now, enjoy as I start rebuilding the site and (hopefully) building the community of like-minded people who love these old magazines that I envisioned.
